Making a zip line at home

The trolley needs to be able to able to support five times more than the load weight. The tether will make sure that the harness is securely attached to the trolley.

You need to get a strap that can be adjusted to 22 — 40 inches long. Most of the tethers are made of static climbing rope or webbing that has a high breaking strength. To get the safest ride on a zip line you need to use a helmet, harnesses and also a safety tether. The only exception that you can skip this is when the zip line goes feet over the water or ground.

But, usually even the lines that are passing over the water usually have a high starting point and you will need to make sure that you are safe. It is wise to plan for the worse so that it never happens. There are many different thoughts on having a break or not, as mentioned before, it all depends on the place you are using the zip line and how long it is.

The best choice, when it comes to a breaking system is the one that depends on gravity in order to slow you down as you are getting closer to the ending point.

A correctly installed break that is regularly maintained will minimize the possibility of injuries. When it comes to building a zip line in your backyard, the people that have a large backyard that has many trees have the advantage as do those who are installing it somewhere in the mountains or hills. This step is very easy; all you need to do is to find two trees that have the desired length path and to make sure that the path is cleared from all other trees and bushes.

Once you have located the trees that meet your specifications you are ready to go to the next step. In this step, you need to be very responsible because it comes to setting the cable that goes from the one tree to the other.

You need to secure the cable on the first tree and then walk the cable to the other tree that you have chosen. Make sure all carabiners are secured. But the line would run to close to a concrete block wall. Is there a bracket or something that I can use to side mount the line to give more spacing off the wall and still use the telephone poles to support the weight and tension of the zip line for young kids?

Really appreciate your help! We have no trees. Thank You! I have cable 70 ft between trees.. We are intrested in starting a zip line on our property we have 4 acres to work with in the town of Bay City Mi. Just added to your cart. Continue shopping. Close search. Zip line Location The first thing you need to do when installing a zip line is of course choose a location! Zip line Design Anchors Deciding on an anchor will help you secure the zip line firmly in position.

A safe zip lining tree has at least a inch diameter around its trunk. Height Requirements We recommend a 7ft clearance around the entire zip line, free from branches, rocks, or any other obstacle. Anchor Height We now have a few inputs. We now need to find out 3 more inputs.

Keep in mind anchor height refers to the height of where your zip line attaches to the tree or anchor. Elevation Change.

Lars March 23, Excellent article. I certainly appreciate this site. Put tension on the rope at the lower anchor by passing the free end of the rope through the master point and then through the carabiner in the alpine butterfly knot and pulling tight.

This arrangement creates a three-to-one advantage to tighten the rope, effectively multiplying your strength by three and allowing you to tighten the rope further than you would be able to do by hand. Secure the free end of the rope to the master point with an anchoring knot such as a clove hitch or a round turn and two half hitches. Optionally, use the remainder of the rope to build redundancy into the system by passing the rope around the lower anchor itself and tying another anchoring knot.

Ride the zip line. Load the pulley onto the zip line, clip a carabiner into the pulley and clip a sling into the carabiner. If the zip line is low to the ground, like following a sloping hillside, the rider can hang on to the sling.

You can also clip the Trolley to a carabiner and pull it back to the launching point using that tool. The coating is more friction-resistant and heat-resistant. The plastic coating on the Trolley is slit and peeled off, which prevents it from running smoothly. You will be able to tension so much more easily if you use a cable winch.
